Creating your dream surfing trip should be as easy as 1-2-3, and according to surf photographer John Seaton Callahan those three factors are season, location and budget.

Season is the most important, as all surfing areas are seasonal. Nobody wants to book a trip to the North Shore of O’ahu in July, or a trip to Jeffrey’s Bay in January. With the Northern and Southern Hemispheres operating in opposite, you’re almost guaranteed to find active storms and swell somewhere on the planet. Popular surf destinations in the North include Mexico, Costa Rica, Morocco, the Canary Islands and Hawaii. For the Southern swell, consider Indonesia, Peru, Chile, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and South Africa.

Location and budget are also critical factors in the ‘dream trip’ calculation, so read on at Surfline.com to see what Callahan has to say about warm-water getaways and how to find adventure regardless of your budget.
